Super Foods

Today's post is all about super foods that sustain you.  Fillers seem to be a waste of time and money and with the ever rising cost of groceries I am looking for foods that will sustain my family.  For some reason I was choosing to feed myself poorly and my children the healthier option.  I ate cookies and chugged coffee in the am while my children were given the better option.  Wondering to myself why I needed a nap or had no stamina.  Before the new school year started I made a promise to myself to stop relying on caffeine to get me through.  Now that the time has come I wanted to share a list of foods to use in lunches or snacks.

Energy Robbers {These are just to name a few}
Limit:

  • Candy
  • Coffee
  • Cookies
  • Ice Cream
  • Bologna, salami, cold cuts {My personal worst}
  • Heavy creams, cheeses
  • White breads
  • Sugared refined boxed cereals
  • Bacon, sausage, ham
  • Commercial instant oats
  • Cakes and pastries

Energy Enhancers {Breakfast}

Enjoy:

  • Oatmeal with raisins, seeds, cinnamon
  • Whole grain cereal
  • Whole grain toast with nut butter
  • Boiled eggs and whole grain bread
  • Fruit salad or smoothie
  • Yogurt
Snacks for Stamina
  • Nuts an seeds
  • Fresh fruit
  • Natural nut and seed, granola
  • Veggie sticks and hummus
  • Air popped popcorn
  • Pretzels
  • Soy nuts
  • Sesame/soy sticks
  • Corn tortillas baked and salsa
  • Yogurt
  • Protein drink
  • Cheese and crackers
{Raspberry popsicle}
{Banana Bread}

Currently, my children love pureed raspberries frozen with yogurt.  I put them in individual cups and freeze and serve them "ice cream" as a treat.  Alternating between popsicle molds or little cups.  Once I master the homemade granola {I swear there must be a secret out there nobody is telling me} then we will puree our fruit and make parfaits with yogurt.  Sounds good to me!
I know your cells {in your body} will love you for this.

Great post. We have cut a lot of those foods out of our diet as well. I loved the other day hubby said. I don't think I put weight on as quickly because we cut so much out of our diet now.

As for granola I have a couple really good recipes.
This is one of my favorites
